WHAT IS THE HEALTH INSURANCE PORTABILITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY ACT (HIPAA)?

WHAT health care consultation services are offered?

· A 5-Point Program of HIPAA compliance intended to bring small healthcare professionals and practices into a state of HIPAA and HITECH readiness.
What is the 5-Point Program? The 5-Point Program is a comprehensive package of services specifically designed to meet the needs of small healthcare practices for HIPAA compliance. The 5-Point Program is performed on site of the practice, and is comprised of these elements:
- Overall Assessment and Risk Analysis: This is a review of the organization and all aspects affected or impacted by HIPAA and HITECH. Usually, this will require one or two full days to complete, and, will require the cooperation and availability of staff. It will assist the HPS team to establish a written baseline and report to the organization of the HIPAA needs of the practice and what is needed to become HIPAA ready, as well as to provide the predicate for the remaining points.
- Appointment of Officers: Based upon the overall assessment, appropriate staffing of the practice's compliance team, and, the appointment of Privacy and Security Officers will be recommended with job descriptions drafted for these important positions within the existing structure of the practice.
- Identification of Business Associates: A determination of all the Business Associates (BAS) with whom the practice shares health data will be made to ensure that properly drafted BA agreements are prepared.
- Document Review: All of the HIPAA-related documents necessary for the practice and ensure the appropriate forms are prepared, organized, and made available to the practice for its use. In the process of reviewing, and upgrading existing forms, a written HIPAA policy statement specifically tailored to the practice will be provided.
- Training and Enforcement: Up to 5 hours of on-site training to the practice and its personnel as required by HIPAA is also provided, and, an enforcement policy designed to ensure a continuing status of HIPAA readiness will be supplied to the practice with its training aspect of the program.

How much time is needed for the HPS Program'? The 5-Point Program is designed specifically for the small healthcare practice, and, is intended to require 5 to 4 days to complete. Ideally, these will be consecutive days; but, may be divided based on scheduling needs. At least 2 to 3 days will be spent on-site, and, if necessary, can be scheduled over weekends.
